Welcome!

Here, you'll find information about upcoming harvests, including varieties that will be part of your share each week.  I'll also be providing some recipe and storage information for some crops.  You will also see my opinions on a variety of topics (because that's what blogs are for right?) as well as links to other sites, articles and essays that I think need to be known. First Post!!! Parker Produce is underway...
Hello and welcome to the Parker Produce Blog.  I hope to update the blog each week (or as near as I can manage it) with information about what's in your share and some ideas about what you might do to prepare certain vegetables, fruits and herbs.

This is always an exciting time of year for the farmer because anticipation of spring has begun to mount.  Even though it is still below freezing most days, the sun rarely shows itself for an entire day and green grass is still a dream, farmers are hard at work preparing, planning and even planting, yes...planting.  I am no exception.

This year, I am putting to good use some of the lessons learned during the last season.  This includes feedback from members and my own experiences.  I'm pleased to report that we're already off to a better, more organized start than last year.  Our seeds were ordered way back in January from Fedco, Johnny's and Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and I began planting seedlings three weeks ago.  The greenhouse is doing very well with crops that overwintered from last season.  We've been eating fresh baby spinach and mache all winter and I've just begun planting some lettuce for the beginning of the delivery season.  I plan to hit the ground running as soon as the Earth will let me.

Parker Produce has also been working to expand our tree fruit offerings.  I've spent several hours pruning apple, plum and pear trees at our home and we have just ordered a few more trees, vines and brambles from Fedco.  We're looking forward to the next few years and what those trees will have in store.

To those of you who have already sent in your share agreement, thank you so much!  If you haven't yet had time to fill out your agreement form and send in your share amount, you still have time.  Don't forget, payment plans are available on a case by case basis and I've already spoken to a few people about just such an arrangement.

I will contact you about delivery locations, pick-up times and the first delivery date just before the season is underway.  Until then, here are some photos from the greenhouse.  Talk to you soon.
